PIGEON PROJECT

For this project I collaborated with writer Millie Haldane to create an immersive site specific piece of theatre within Temple Church in Bristol. The play centres around three women trapped within separate, threatening, purgatorial spaces, witnessing the same horrific event (a pigeon being murdered) in real time. The play is narrated by the soon-to-be deceased pigeon, who leads the audience through the space one room at a time to hear each individual story. I wanted to explore a traditional religious space, which historically carries with it a specific set of assumptions about women, and challenge this by filling Temple Church with a horrific funfair of visceral imagery which embodies the rage and hopelessness felt by the women in the play. In the model box are ‘Room One’ and ‘Room Two’ of Temple Church. We hope to bring this play to life in October 2024 within the site.
